Dr Edwin Lee — known as DrCyberPastor — has spent nearly 30 years at the forefront of cybersecurity, digital transformation, and enterprise leadership. But the story behind the career is the one worth knowing.
WHERE IT BEGAN
A boy from Chinatown, Singapore.
Edwin Lee was born the youngest of six children in Singapore, growing up in the 1970s as the nation itself was finding its feet. His earliest years were spent in a single room in his grandmother's house in Chinatown, where siblings slept side by side and every resource was shared.
His father — a stevedore and businessman with Fujian ancestry — passed away from stomach cancer in late 1975. Edwin was two years old. His mother, left to raise six children alone, later told him she had contemplated ending her life in those darkest days. It was the baby in her arms — Edwin — that kept her going.
But before his father died, something extraordinary happened. Edwin's eldest brother had become a Christian — a fact that initially brought him beatings from their father. Yet on his deathbed, after his son witnessed to him one final time, their father said words that would echo through the family for generations:
"I now believe your God is real — because I saw the change in your life."
He gathered his children before he died and told them to go to church. That was the beginning of faith in the Lee family — a father's deathbed conversion, and a mother who chose to live.
Edwin grew up in the church, and so did his wife. She was two years old when they first attended the same congregation. He was four. They grew up together through childhood, teenage years, and young adulthood. They married on 31 July 1997 and have been together ever since.
They have five children — aged 28, 26, 19, 12, and 10. Edwin jokes that God gave them three dispensations of children. Their newest family member is a Golden Retriever.

HOW IT STARTED
A $5-an-hour library job that changed everything.
Edwin didn't set out to build a career in technology. At 16, his sister — an executive assistant at Arthur Andersen's Management Information Systems Division — got him a temp job helping the company librarian. The pay was $5 an hour. In 1989, that was exceptional for a teenager. McDonald's was paying less than $2.
He worked fast, finished early, and caught the attention of the young IT consultants around him. One of them — CS Seah — asked if Edwin could help with a client proposal. The temp worker became an informal intern almost overnight. He learned IBM Storyboard. He worked late. He absorbed everything. Watching CS Seah work, Edwin told himself: when I graduate, I want to be like him.
That proposal was accepted — by the Ministry of Finance in Mauritius. CS Seah would eventually rise to become Managing Partner of the firm. And Arthur Andersen's Management Information Systems Division would spin off to become Andersen Consulting, and then Accenture.
When Edwin went to university, he chose not to study IT — convinced that if he studied what he loved, he might lose the passion for it. He read Business Management at the University of London, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with no IT subjects whatsoever.
"Edwin wrote his last exam paper on a Friday. The following Monday, he was at work — beginning his professional career at Accenture.."
The project manager who hired him was LP Goh — part of the same original cohort as CS Seah. LP Goh was a demanding leader who expected high standards and rewarded performance generously. It was LP Goh who asked the question that would change Edwin's life: "Edwin — where do you see yourself in five years?"
THE QUESTION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

When LP Goh asked where Edwin saw himself in five years, Edwin gave the appropriate career answer. But the question hit somewhere deeper — because at age 15, Edwin had surrendered to God's call to ministry after seeing photo slides of persecuted Chinese pastors in a then-closed China. A quiet surrender, never forgotten.
He began pursuing ministry opportunities. Door after door was too small, had no budget, or simply wasn't ready.
Then came Ottawa. April 2002. The family had been in Canada for over a year. Edwin had transferred to Accenture Ottawa and begun theology studies. One Sunday, the senior pastor announced the church was seeking an associate pastor. Edwin felt a surge of elation. That evening, he greeted the pastor at the door
"The announcement this morning about the associate pastor role — here am I."
He expected a hallelujah. Instead, the pastor explained the role required a Bible college graduate. Edwin didn't show the devastation. He got busy setting up. That night, he cried. He asked God if he had heard the call wrongly all those years ago.
Two weeks later, a Bible college professor in Toronto asked him two questions: "Do you think the ministry needs funds? Have you ever considered that you could be the source of those funds while being a minister?"
Then the challenge:"Go research the life of the Apostle Paul"
What Edwin found overturned everything. Paul didn't work because he had to. He worked by choice — so as not to burden the churches.
"With these hands have I laboured so as not to be a burden unto you."

Edwin re-surrendered that evening. "If the Apostle Paul can do it, so can I."
He has walked the dual-purpose calling ever since — building marketplace excellence and serving as a minister. A 2018 visit to Israel confirmed the theology: the Jewish people made no division between faith and vocation. Neither did the early Christians. Edwin had been living the integrated life for years. Now he had the language for it.

A FRAMEWORK FOR HOW TO BUILD
Not prosperity. Not poverty. Stewardship.
In Christian circles, two dominant theologies fight for airspace. The prosperity gospel says God intends only blessing and abundance for His children. The poverty gospel responds that the faithful should live simply, detached from material concern. Edwin rejects both — not by arguing against them, but by offering something better.
Stewardship Gospel is the conviction that everything we have — wealth, talent, influence, time, platform — is entrusted to us, not possessed by us. We are managers, not owners. The measure of leadership is not what we accumulate, but how faithfully we deploy what we have been given in service of others.
This framework sits at the centre of everything Edwin does — his cybersecurity work, his speaking, his writing, his leadership, his family, and his faith community.

30 YEARS OF ENTERPRISE LEADERSHIP
From Accenture to the boardroom — and back again.
What followed that Monday at Accenture in 1997 was nearly three decades of building, leading, and transforming organisations across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and North America. He ran both technology work and theology studies simultaneously — completing his Master of Ministry in 2010 and receiving a Doctor of Divinity in 2012.
He rose to Associate Partner at DXC Technology, delivered a USD 20 million engagement in Bahrain, and worked across Singapore's critical information infrastructure — Changi Airport, the Land Transport Authority, and multiple government ministries.
In 2020, he became Group CEO of Focus Digital Technology Group — four people and SGD 400,000 in revenue. By 2025: 30+ people, SGD 6 million in revenue, and recognition as Singapore's #2 Fastest Growing Company.
He founded Cybernatics — an AI-powered SaaS cybersecurity platform with Singapore Government deployments — and personally pitched to over 200 investors in pursuit of the vision.

Theology studies begin alongside full-time work
WHY EVERYTHING WAS TESTED
Seven months. No income. Meals were sometimes a challenge
A signed investment agreement — a legal contract for SGD 7 million — never materialised. The cashflow crisis hit hard. Cybernatics had been sold to the Singapore Government, which kept the company going longer — but without the sales investment it needed to scale.
The right decision was the painful one: liquidate honourably, and spin Cybernatics off to be fundraised from scratch. A new investor stepped in. A new CEO took the helm. The software lives on.
Edwin was without income for seven months. His family felt it. Meals were sometimes a challenge. He thought of the communities he had observed over the years — families navigating that reality every single day — and found in that season a depth of empathy he had never possessed before.
He came out the other side without bitterness. With clarity. With a sharper sense of what matters, what he is built for, and what he will never take for granted again.

BEYOND THE CAREER
A Lifelong Manchester United fan. A husband of 28 years. A father of five. And a goalkeeper.
Edwin has supported Manchester United since the age of eight. In 2023, through the Marriott Bonvoy Play on the Pitch programme, he bid — and rebid, and called friends to borrow their points — to secure one of only six packages available globally to play on the hallowed pitch of Old Trafford. He won the bid. He flew to Manchester with three friends. He played in goal.
Denis Irwin was his left back.
He made saves. He earned the Moment of the Match award, presented by Wes Brown, in front of the Old Trafford stands. A boy who grew up sleeping in one room with his siblings in Chinatown — standing on the Theatre of Dreams pitch, holding a trophy, shaking hands with a Manchester United legend.
That is stewardship. Not luck. Not prosperity. A life lived with intention — and a God who honours faithfulness with moments that cannot be manufactured.

THE NAME THE MARKETPLACE GAVE HIM
He didn't invent the name. The marketplace did.
In recent years, people in the business world — some of them not even Christians — began calling him the "Cyber Pastor." They knew what he did professionally. They sensed something different about how he did it. The name stuck.
When he went looking for the domain cyberpastor.com, it was already taken. DrCyberPastor.com was not. A brand was born — not from a marketing strategy, but from the simple fact that when you live an integrated life long enough, the world eventually finds a name for it.
